A proposal by Master Amadou SOW

What's it all about?

Ten young artists, of which two are young women, have launched themselves into ACTION BOTTLEBOY DAKAR, a one-of-a-kind experience. 600 KIRENE plastic mineral water bottles were recycled in the process. ACTION BOTTLEBOY DAKAR aims to call the public at large to reflect upon the necessity to protect our environment, the source of our essential natural resource: drinking water. The original BOTTLEBOY is a vibrantly coloured screw-cap which can fit on practically any bottle-neck. It has a hole in its base permitting to be affixed to a wall or other object in any number of positions. This simple invention easily inspires artists to create incredible varieties of artworks using recycled bottles.

The project? An artistic exercise that reflects on the environment

Amadou SOW, the artist living and working in Vienna (Austria), is committed to the fight for a clean environment. His discovery of this special screw-cap inspired him to gather a group of artists under the banner "BOTTLEBOY DAKAR" to consider together the particular problem of recycling plastic. The artists have imagined many different ways to give new life to a used plastic bottle, with the protection of the environment in mind. The instructional aspect of this project prevailed over the competitive instincts between the artists. Using only the BOTTLEBOY screw-cap and plastic bottles the artists have bonded through this common experience, proving that they are not just alienated at the edge of society, rather that they are well anchored its heart. Through their experiments, they have committed themselves to the problem of how to deal with the ever-expanding volume of less-biodegradable waste that is endanger of swamping our environment.

The selection of KIRENE as sole partner

The BOTTLEBOY DAKAR collective has chosen KIRENE to be their sole corporate partner for this event because of the appropriate aspects of their product: environment, bottle, plastic, natural water, Senegal. Public health is directly related to the cleanliness of drinking water. The accessibility of potable water sources is of pressing concern to societies in the world today, and will be increasingly so in the future. KIRENE Corporation has demonstrated its far-sighted commitment to water quality and to the protection of the environment. KIRENE is a Senegalese company. KIRENE is an active sponsor of important cultural events such as the St Louis Jazz Festival. KIRENE works to combat pollution, the enemy of clean water. Without a clean environment, there is no healthy drinking water. KIRENE's collaboration with contemporary artists in this event is the most prestigious way to show its commitment to the environment.
